On April 28th an 8 month old male Husky puppy (DOB 8-28-17) got loose, was chasing a squirrel and ran into the road where he was hit by a car. He sustained a fracture of his left femur. The puppy, renamed Zuri, was transferred to Northwood for orthopedic surgery, which he had on April 30th . Unfortunately, he was too big and active and the plate bent. A second surgery was performed May 4th to remove the bent plate and use an IM pin with external fixator to repair the broken bone. During recovery he had a seizure. He had another seizure weeks later after being sedated for x-rays so his seizure threshold is low, indicating the possibility of epilepsy in the future. In early August the decision was made that Zuri would be better served with his leg being amputated. He is healing nicely and is on seizure meds. He’s such a sweet puppy as his silly expressions and desire to play make him special. The loss of one leg isn’t going to slow this guy down.
