On December 7. 2015 an estimate to be 3 week old male black and white DSH orphaned kitten was found on Monday and Capital Circle (near Kelly Sheet Metal). We just happened to have a momma cat nursing a litter (Maizy and her brood). He is maybe 1 week older, but mama welcomed him to the family. He certainly sticks out in a sea of orange. Maizy did a great job raising him like he was her own kitten. Shane was adopted February 23, 2016. He was returned to CARE on May 18 th , 2016 through no fault of his own. His new owner found out she was pregnant soon after adopting Shane. Unfortunately, she was given inaccurate information by her obstetrician who told her that she should not have a cat at all while pregnant due to the risk of Toxoplasmosis. The owner was provided information by one of our veterinarians advising that she is more likely to get Toxoplasmosis from gardening or eating undercooked pork than she would from an indoor only cat. There are tests that can be performed to see if a cat has been exposed to the parasite. However, the owner was still concerned and elected to proceed with relinquishing him. Please consider taking him into your home. He is 6 months old, litterbox trained, has beautiful markings and is a very sweet cat.
