On May 2, 2023 an injured momma cat was brought to Northwood Animal Hospital on emergency.  She was brought in by someone that found her in the road. The cat was estimated to be 1 ½ years old (DOB 11-2-21).   We named her Penny.  She is a DSH brown tabby. Penny had sustained serious injuries, likely from being hit by a car.  Her mental status was dull, indicating likely head trauma.  Her left lower canine tooth had pierced her tongue so we had to fix that.  She had a laceration near the base of her tail that required surgical repair. She had a heavy tick infestation so she was clearly outside for some time. She had full mammary glands, so it is likely she had some kittens she was nursing somewhere.  Penny’s injuries were treated.  She had some issues with defecation for a time.  X-rays showed her pelvis was fine.  There may have been nerve damage to her tail, resulting in decreased ability to defecate.  She was monitored closely in hospital and her problems with defecating resolved.  Penny was a natural mother.  Even though her milk had long dried up, she “fostered” a series of newborn kittens we had, keeping them clean and loving on them, even though we had to bottle feed him.  Penny that caretaker is ready for someone to take care of her now. She has been spayed, microchipped, if FeLV/FIV negative and vaccinated.
