A beautiful white female spayed 1 1/2 year old (DOB 10/02/16) domestic long haired cat named Lily was signed over to Northwood on April 4th. She had been brought in by her owner for an exam a few days before that since Lily had stopped eating and had become very lethargic over the previous 6 days. The owner had gotten her from someone else in December. Reportedly she was current on vaccines from the previous owner but no records were provided. Blood work run on April 4th showed some anemia but no other specific cause for her illness. The owner elected conservative treatment and took her home. She returned with and signed her over to Northwood for continued care as she was not improving. At that time, Lily was having trouble breathing and had fluid in her thoracic cavity (pleural effusion) on x-ray. She was started on aggressive treatment. Cytology of fluid taken from her lungs was suspicious of FIP, a lethal form of corona virus. However, Lily started responding to treatment. Within a few days she was eating and breathing normally. We continued to monitor Lily for the last month before making her available for adoption. It is unknown what the specific infection that caused her illness is as cats don’t usually survive FIP infection. Regardless, Lily is doing so well and would be a sweet, loving addition to your household. Her adoption fee is 100$.
