Lady Bug is a bouncy brindle and white Pit Bull mix. She was accepted into the CARE Program at Northwood Animal Hospital after being brought to us in critical condition, gasping for air. Her neck was extremely swollen and radiographs showed metallic foreign bodies in her stomach. Emergency surgery was performed to place a tracheostomy tube (to allow her to breath) and gastrotomy to remove the foreign material from her stomach. Managing her tracheostomy tube was tricky, as it required frequent suctioning to prevent it from occluding, cutting off her access to oxygen. On May 19th, she had a second surgery to remove inflammed tissue in her neck in hopes of resolving the ongoing swelling. Finally on May 25th, the trach tube was removed and she did very well. She had a third surgery May 30th to be spayed. Lady Bug no longer has any problems breathing. It is a mystery as to why her neck became so swollen in the first place. In addition to addressing her surgical needs, Lady Bug was treated for intestinal parasites, vaccinated and microchipped. She is available for adoption at The Animal Hospital and Pet Resort at Southwood.
