On Oct. 24, 2025 a badly injured kitten was brought to Northwood Animal Hospital as an emergency.  He was a 1 month old black male DSH.  He had been born to the owner’s momma cat, one of 5 kittens.  This kitten was accidentally stepped on by one of the owners.  It was immediately apparent he was badly injured.

Xrays showed bruising/contusions to his lungs and both his front legs (both humeruses) were fractured.  There was concern about brain injury as well.

The kitten was relinquished so he could receive the care he needed.

His treating doctor devised a customized splint for him, that incorporated both front legs, bridging the splints over his neck/shoulder area.  His splint was quite the sight to see, thus his name.

Xrays showed his left front leg had healed well enough to remove the splint on his left leg by Nov. 2nd.  On November 22, his right leg was declared healed and he was freed from his splint completely.  You could never tell now how badly injured he really was.

An initial FIV test came up positive for him.  Sometimes a false positive test can be seen when momma has FIV, but does not necessarily say the kitten itself has FIV.  Follow up testing showed that Edward was negative for FIV

Edward has been neutered, microchipped and has completed his kitten vaccines.  He is ready for a home now.
