On May 9th a female black lab mix about 4 months old (Izzy) was signed over to CARE. This sweet pup has been through a lot for her young age. On April 29th she was taken by animal control to the shelter after she was found distressed and locked in a hot car. She was treated for heat stroke and adopted a week later. Four days after being adopted she was brought to a friend’s house for a puppy play date. The other puppy was found dead and Izzy was found throwing up, very weak, and unable to walk. She was brought to Northwood and signed over to CARE. We’re not sure if both puppies were exposed to the same toxin or if this could’ve been another heat stroke. Izzy was treated with IV fluids and for low blood sugar and by the next day she was acting more like a normal puppy. Later in May Izzy developed a long stripe of severely ulcerated skin from her shoulders to her rump from either a severe infection or allergic reaction. Thankfully her skin is healing and she is finally healthy, vaccinated and spayed! She’s got character, her stripe makes her look like a skunk. Izzy is overdue for some good luck and loving home!
