Say Hello to Bandit! This handsome young dog was brought to CARE after he was attacked by a much larger dog. Bandit sustained significant wounds in the process, including an abdominal hernia (the muscle that normally holds the intestines in the abdomen was damaged, so his intestines were just under the skin). During the initial examination, it was also determined that Bandit was heartworm positive and would need surgery for cherry eye. Emergency surgery was performed at Northwood Animal Hospital to correct the abdominal hernia and treat his wounds. Thankfully, there was no significant damage to the intestines themselves. Bandit recovered well from the dog fight and received cherry eye surgery at the time of his neuter two weeks later. Bandit has officially completed his heartworm disease treatment; however, his heart was damaged by the disease. He has had some fainting spells (syncope), but is responding well to the heart medications to help control them. During his time in CARE, Bandit has been sweet with humans of all ages (including kids), but is nervous around large dogs (likely because of the attack that brought him here). He is a very sweet, food-motivated, eager to please little boy who is just looking for someone to love!
