On May 16th, 2026 a badly injured 8 month old puppy was owner surrendered to Northwood Animal Hospital.
She was born on the property of the original owner (in Climax, GA). Her mother was a Chihuahua and her father was a Blue heeler. This breed mix makes her small (currently weighing in at 15lbs) but mighty. She has striking tri colored markings. She was given an estimated DOB of Sept. 25, 2025. We named her Bloom.
The puppy was reportedly hit by a car 2 days earlier and sustained severe injuries to her right front leg. The skin on the inside of the right front leg was severely abraded, some of the skin was dead/necrotic and the leg was very swollen. X-rays showed a fracture of the right radius bone, at the level of the skin damage. The good news was the ulna bone was intact. Even though this was an open fracture with severe infection, the decision was made to try to save the leg. She was treated with antibiotics, pain meds, anti-inflammatories and leg was splinted, bandages changed frequently while the leg was healing. And it did heal pretty well. She has a possible avulsion fracture of her right elbow and still has a bit of a limp. But you would never known by how happy she is all the time.
In addition to addressing her wounds, she was treated for hookworms, vaccinated, spayed and microchipped.
Bloom has been given medical clearance so she can find her forever home to continue her healing process. She loves all people. She wants to be “all up in the business” of other dogs she has met while living in the hospital. Not in an aggressive way. More out of curiosity, wanting to be everyone’s friends. She has been introduced to kittens and does not seem to see them as prey.
Please come visit our sweet Bloom and see if she would fit into your family.
